1). What is your Beam Depth

2). What is Your Beam Width

After that only you can design your beam that

What will be the size and diameter of the steel ,numbers of stirrups and so on.So, First thing you have to decide is Depth and width of beam.

So, Basically Today I will tell you those calculations that How to calculatedepth & Width of Beam of any Span,as well as I will clear you that what should be the minimum percentage of steel in Beam ,Slab and Column.

How to Calculate Width & depth of Beam

Lets take an example,

Suppose A Span is Given whose

Length = 4 meter

Now , What Should be the minimum depth and width of this beam

So,it is very Simple and Easy to calculate

Hence,According to IS Standard

The Formula for Calculate minimum Depth of Beam

Min d = l/16

= 4/16 = ¼ = 0.25 meter or 250 mm

Or when we convert it in cm than it is equal to = 25 cm ( because 1 cm is equal to 25 mm )

So, Our Depth of beam = 25 cm

Now we will Calculate Width of the Beam

So, According to IS Standard

The Formula for Calculate minimum Width

Min b = d/1.5

= 25/1.5 = 16.67 Cm

So,

As per our Indian Standard For a Span of 4 mtr minimum Depth of beam should be Consider 25 cm and minimum width of beam should be consider 16.67 cm. It may be greater than these dimensions but cannot be less than these dimensions.

Now will discuss on another things that

According to Indian Standard (IS)

Maximum Steel Percentage Required for slab = 4 %

Maximum Steel Percentage Required for Beams = 4 %

Maximum Steel Percentage Required for Column = 6 %
