# Water Tank Size & Capacity – How to Calculate Rectangular Tank sizes & Capacity

## CALCULATION OF RECTANGULAR WATER TANK SIZE AND ITS CAPACITY

Water Tank Size & Capacity Calculation – Actually, we need to calculate by our self only small residential buildings water tank size & capacity but for high rise buildings, water tank dimensions provided by the engineer architects.

So, Lets Start

### VOLUME OF WATER REQUIREMENT:

As per IS code, a person needs 135 liters of water per day for daily use.

Drinking – 5 Liters.

Cooking – 5 Liters.

Bathing and Toilet – 85 liters.

Washing clothes and Utensils – 30 liters.

House Cleaning – 10 liters.

## CALCULATION OF RECTANGULAR WATER TANK SIZE AND ITS CAPACITY

We will calculate for a typical family having 6 members.

Total water requirement = 135 x 6 = 810 liters

So, To calculate the size of the water tank we have to  know any  one of the following dimensions

Length or width or depth of the tank.

From the formula of volume of water

1 Cum = 1000 liters

1 liter = 0.001 Cum

We are requiring 810-liter water

∴ 810 liters = 0.81 Cum

Let us assume the depth of the water tank is 0.8 m.

∴ Area of tank = 0.81/0.8 = 1.012 meter square

L x B = 1.012 meter square

Now if you know the length or breadth you can put the value on the above formula.

otherwise, you will have to take the length as 2 times of B.

∴ L = 2 B

L x B = 1.012  meter square

2 B x B = 1.012 meter square

B 2 = 1.012

B = 1.006

∴ L = 2 x 1.006= 2.012 m

So For 810-liter water tank size

Length (L)   = 2.012 m.

Depth (D)     = 0.8 m.
